Intrinsically Safe Phone PDO – ATEX Certified Devices for Petroleum Development Oman Operations
Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is the Sultanate’s largest oil and gas producer, responsible for approximately 70 percent of Oman’s total oil production and the majority of its natural gas supply. As a joint venture between the Omani government (60%), Shell (34%), TotalEnergies (4%), and Partex (2%), PDO operates under a combination of Omani regulatory requirements and the HSE management standards of its international partners — creating one of the region’s most rigorous ATEX equipment procurement environments.
Intrinsically safe phones for PDO operations must meet PDO’s Corporate Equipment Approval Process (CEAP), which specifies ATEX II 2G Ex ia certification with full certification documentation from an EU notified body as a minimum standard. PDO’s CEAP process requires devices to be assessed against PDO’s specific operational requirements, including temperature, dust, and IP ingress standards in addition to Zone 1 ATEX certification. Infinity-EX intrinsically safe phones carry ATEX Ex ia IIC T4 Ga certification, meeting PDO’s most demanding CEAP requirements and supporting the vendor registration process with comprehensive technical documentation.
PDO’s Production Gathering Centres and ATEX Requirements
PDO’s production gathering centres (PGCs) are the operational centres of each production area, receiving production from multiple oil and gas wells, separating oil, water, and gas streams, and processing natural gas for pipeline export. The PGC’s separation and gas processing units create Zone 1 classified areas across all active separator vessels, gas scrubbers, fuel gas systems, and compression equipment. Field operators, instrument technicians, and maintenance engineers working at PDO’s PGCs require intrinsically safe Zone 1 mobile devices for all operational activities within these classified areas.
Remote Area Operations and Communication Requirements
PDO’s operations span some of Oman’s most remote desert terrain, where field personnel may work at considerable distances from the nearest PGC or field base. Intrinsically safe phones with GPS positioning and emergency SOS capability are especially important in this environment, supporting PDO’s lone worker monitoring requirements and enabling rapid emergency response to incidents in remote field locations. Infinity-EX intrinsically safe phones provide GPS tracking, programmable SOS alarm functions, and extended battery life for full shift operation in remote areas — all features aligned with PDO’s HSE requirements for field operations. Delivery within 5 to 10 working days supports PDO’s equipment procurement timelines for ongoing operations and capital project requirements.
